"No take-backs"

Films: Needful Things (1993)

Alias: None

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: Some say that Satan doesn't necessarily make us do evil things. He just supplies us with means to be evil, and simply waits to see if we take the bait. And sadly, a lot of people fall for it, hook, line, and sinker.

History: Leland Gaunt is the shopkeeper of "Needful Things" a variety store filled with cheap yet astonishingly helpful trinkets that seem to serve a purpose for every individual. All Leland asks for in return is a small fee, and a little prank for the buyer to play on someone. This of course is a means to a sinister end. For Leland is the Devil in disguise, and his profession is to encourage people to give into their pettiness and resentment of each other so that they end up killing each other and giving their souls to him.

Notable Kills: None. He just supplies the means for others to kill.

Final Fate: After the town Leland is currently setting up store in descends in to chaos due to him becoming less a shopkeeper and more an arms dealer, the people finally wizen up to his schemes, and one even blows his whole place up. But Leland survives the explosion, and while he feels that his performance here was rather sub-par, he tells them that their grandchildren will see him again around 2053. Mark your calendars, folks.

Powers/Abilities: Immortality.

Weakness: None.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Leland may look like just an eccentric businessman, but he's a master manipulator, and really, he knows how to work a crowd. Nothing's more terrifying than the prospect that all the hatred and violence is all your fault, and all the Devil ever did was whisper words of encouragement.

Trivia: -In the original Stephen King story, it is more implied that Leland is a human avatar for Nyarlathotep himself. He also turns into a dwarven-like figure upon leaving the town.

-Leland was played by Max von Sydow, who has a long history of professional acting, and even got the role of the Three-Eyed Raven in "Game of Thrones".
